Current Fellow

Dr. Shruti Sinha

Dr. Sinha is the Fellow in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus for 2023–24. She will serve at Children’s Nebraska and UNMC.

Dr. Sinha was born and raised in India, where she earned her medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College, and also completed her Ophthalmology residency. She served the Indian Army as an army physician for seven years before moving to the U.S. She has been involved in clinical research at Massachusetts Eye & Ear, and at the Department of Ophthalmology of UNMC. She has authored a large number of publications. She has also been the recipient of the best paper award by the Cornea and Eye Banking Forum at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Conference of 2019.

For the last year Dr. Sinha has been the Research Fellow in the UNMC Department of Ophthalmology and at Children’s Nebraska Division of Ophthalmology. During this time, she has been involved in groundbreaking, clinical and basic science research, including investigating systemic manifestations of collagen disorders in children, and prevention of infantile blindness from Retinopathy of Prematurity.

Dr. Sinha will be working alongside the pediatric ophthalmology team led by Dr. Paul Rychwalski, the Fellowship Director and Chief of Ophthalmology, Children’s Nebraska/UNMC; Dr. Samiksha Jain, Director of Clinical Education at Children's; Dr. Richard Legge and Dr. Ahmad Halawa, both Pediatric and neuro-ophthalmologists.

In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, hiking, and spending time with her family.

 

Why did you choose UNMC for fellowship? UNMC provides an excellent balance of clinical training as well as research opportunities in the field of Pediatric Ophthalmology.

Career aspirations? Pediatric Ophthalmology

What was your first job? Physician in the Indian Army.

Favorite things to do in Omaha/Nebraska? Trying out different cuisines from the huge variety of restaurants.

Fun fact about yourself? I am fascinated by travel and have lived in 17 different cities.
