Bryant Carlson, MD
House Officer II
Name:
Bryant Carlson
What interested you most in UNMC?:
UNMC is on the forefront of many areas of medicine, but none more important than being the leader in rural medical education. It was a natural fit to stay with UNMC to continue my residency and an even better fit to be a part of the rural training track, receiving rural training right in a rural environment.
What was your first job?
Umpiring youth baseball and softball.
What is the furthest you've traveled from Omaha?:
San Diego, CA
Career aspirations:
Full scope family medicine including surgical obstetrics at a critical access hospital.
If you couldn't work in medicine, what would you do?:
I would totally teach high school science. I admired all of my teachers growing up and feel it would a natural fit. Teaching my patients, fellow residents, and medical students is the best part of my current job.
If you only had one day in Nebraska, what would you do?:
I would spend a day out here in the Panhandle exploring and enjoying the unique terrain and beautiful (low humidity) weather on this side of the state.
Most fond residency experience or memory up to this point?:
My most fond residency experience was getting to do a c-section in the middle of the night intern year with my best friend and co-resident, Dr. Richling, as my first assist. It was a once in a lifetime experience!
