David Surujpaul, MD
House Officer I
Name:
David Surujpaul
What interested you most in UNMC?:
UNMC is at the forefront of medical education with a diverse patient population that provides excellent education and patient care. I am interested in being a part of UNMC to build upon myself and support the community.
What was your first job?
My first job was working in a factory with my dad. It gave me a new perspective on hard work in which I apply every day. Even though it is different than what I am doing at UNMC, it is a good reminder and helps me relate to others and their experiences.
What is the furthest you've traveled from Omaha?:
Dominica - where I did part of my medical school training. The training there really helped shape me to be who I am today. The different cultures and communities really gave me a sense of who I want to be today.
Career aspirations:
Complete residency with training that will help me be a leader for the community. When I am working in the community, I want to be someone advocating for the importance of family medicine.
If you couldn't work in medicine, what would you do?:
I would become a competitive gamer and build a gaming community that is a safe gaming space and supportive for others.
If you only had one day in Nebraska, what would you do?:
I would go to UNMC and get a meatball sub from Subway and head downtown to enjoy the scenery.
Most fond residency experience or memory up to this point?:
I have two fond memories. The first is with my friends who came down to Nebraska from Canada to celebrate Christmas. The second is was during my rotation at Children's Hospital where on the last day, the whole team felt like we accomplished amazing things working together.
