Dr. Victoria Wadman is the health security fellow with a background in emergency medicine, prehospital medicine, and global health.
Her academic journey began with a B.A. in Psychology and a Certificate in Global Health from the University of Iowa. She continued to seek opportunities to gain skills and knowledge in the global health field and completed an M.S. in Global Health from the University of Notre Dame. Her graduate studies included a multidisciplinary Capstone Project addressing social and biological impacts of preventative measures during the Zika virus outbreak in Belize which involved collaboration with the Belizean Ministry of Health and field research in remote villages.
Dr. Wadman pursued an M.D. and completed an Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. During her time at UNMC, she served as President of the Bridge to Care Organization focusing on improving health of refugees in Omaha. During her time residency, she participated in various emergency response initiatives including quality assurance reviews, event medical coverage, and city-wide disaster simulations. She engaged in research projects involving utilization of telemedicine, toxicologic exposures, and developing isolation systems for highly infectious diseases. Her last year of residency, her research was aimed at utilizing special mapping to inform an initiative for providing EpiPens to areas with high frequency of Emergency Medical Service dispatch calls for anaphylaxis and allergic reactions.
Dr. Wadman recently completed a fellowship in Emergency Medical Services and the role of visiting instructor at the University of Utah. Her fellowship included attending regional and national meetings, participating in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, protocol reviews, and practicing in austere environments.
She has been in this role for the last few months and is eager to continue demonstrating her commitment to advancing the field of health security. By combining her clinical experience with a passion for research and education, she aims to address some of the most pressing health challenges of our time. She is also an outdoor enthusiast. She loves spending time amidst nature, whether she is hiking scenic trails, birding or looking at wildlife, or skiing and enjoying winter sports. She nurtures a succulent collection and is excited to expand her green thumb into gardening. She also likes to spend time with friends, family, and her partner, Luke where they love to try out new restaurants and events around the Omaha area.
