About Tick-Borne Illnesses

Tick-Borne Illnesses are infections transmitted to humans and animals through the bite of an infected tick. These aren't caused by the ticks themselves, but by the bacteria, viruses, or parasites the ticks carry in their saliva.

What to know:

  • Tick-borne illnesses often mimic the "summer flu" and can easily be overlooked until they become more serious.
  • Common diseases caused by ticks include Lyme Disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Babesiosis, and Anaplasmosis.
  • Most tick-borne illnesses cause symptoms that start with fever, chills, aches, pains, and rashes.
