Xiangde (Martin) Liu, MD, PhD
Dr. Liu completed his post-doctoral training in 1998 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center under the mentorship of Stephen I. Rennard. He studied lung tissue injury and repair with a focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, COPD, in his early research career (until 2016). Currently, Dr. Liu's focus is on the study of atherosclerosis, especially, the role of chronic inflammation in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.

Research
Using an in vitro model of tissue culture, to study tissue injury and repair. Currently, using 3D co-culture of human coronary artery smooth muscle cells (HCASMCs), human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs), and monocytes, to study the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and to screen potential preventive and therapeutic drugs for atherosclerosis.
