Dr. Ashford

Dr. Allison Ashford joined the Med-Peds faculty in 2012.  She was appointed the Med-Peds Program Director as of January 2018. She graduated from medical school in 2008 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed her residency there immediately following.  She then served as the Chief Resident of Internal Medicine from 2012-2013.  She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Pediatric Hospital Medicine.

Dr. Ashford is a full-time hospitalist, splitting her time as an internal medicine hospitalist at UNMC and also as a pediatric hospitalist at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.  She previously worked to staff residents at the Med-Peds clinic at Nebraska Medicine Fontenelle Clinic.  She dedicates time to teaching students and residents in both disciplines in didactics and procedural skills.  She is an active member in the Internal Medicine Clinical Competency Committee and the institutions GME committee.  In 2019 she received the Hirschmann Golden Apple Award. She is also involved with the Society of Hospital Medicine, starting the local Nebraska Chapter a few years ago and now sitting on the Physicians In Training National Committee.

Dr. Ashford will be the first to tell you that she has the best job around, and she feels that her training both in medical school and residency at the University of Nebraska has prepared her well to be a successful academic physician in both disciplines.  She has one daughter, Rosie. In her free time, she enjoys running (both on the road and trail), cooking and baking, swimming, traveling and watching reality TV.
