Biography

Paul M. Wilken, MSN PMHNP-BC is a clinical instructor in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program at the College of Nursing. He also works in private practice seeing patients throughout the lifespan for mental health. Mr. Wilken is from Omaha and graduated from the same program he is now instructing here at UNMC. In addition to teaching and caring for his patients, Mr. Wilken hopes to be a business and organizational leader in addressing the mental health needs of Nebraskans. He has worked in a variety of settings in the treatment of both mental and physical health for patients of all ages. Before Mr. Wilken was a provider, he was a nurse in long-term care, infection control, gastroenterology, dialysis, and pediatric behavioral health. His work as a crisis counselor ultimately led him into nursing nearly a decade ago. For the last several years his focus has been on the treatment of serious and persistent mental illness in the underserved communities of Douglas County. He enjoys spending time with his family, writing screenplays and music with his friends, and fishing.
