The IBB can support:

• FFPE, snap frozen, viably frozen, and direct release tissue
• De-identified serum, plasma, and whole blood 
• Intraoperative sterile fresh tissue procurement
• Retrieval of archival patient tissue

The IBB provides laboratory processing services to prepare biospecimens for research:

• DNA, RNA, or protein extraction
  The IBB can extract DNA and RNA from a variety of sample types using the automated KingFisher Flex extraction instrument. Our laboratory staff has extensive experience with DNA and RNA isolation to support high-quality sample preparation.

• Peripheral blood mononuclear cell isolation
  Peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) isolation is performed manually by experienced IBB laboratory staff using established laboratory techniques.

The IBB provides secure storage and management of research biospecimens.

Researchers within the University of Nebraska System may request de-identified serum, plasma, and whole blood samples available through the IBB.

Researchers may also rent space in IBB -80°C freezers for sample storage. Freezers have alarms and are monitored 24/7, and IBB staff manage freezer issues to help maintain sample integrity.

The IBB can manage the day-to-day organization and maintenance of research samples, reducing the workload for research teams. Sample management services include:

• Maintaining a running sample inventory
• Labeling vials as needed
• Organizing and storing samples at the appropriate temperature
• Retrieving samples when requested by the researcher
• Managing freezer storage and related issues

The IBB provides additional services to support clinical trials and academic research across the University of Nebraska System.
