Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship

Get to know the UNMC Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship in Omaha, Neb.

Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) & Children’s Nebraska (Children's) in Omaha, NE. Please take your time exploring all that we offer.

Children’s is the only free-standing children’s hospital in the state of Nebraska, serving children from our 1 million populace metro area and far-reaching rural communities. We are proud of our new state of the art children’s hospital and emergency department which opened in August 2021. The pediatric emergency department is a 26-bed unit including two dedicated trauma and resuscitation rooms. With over 35,000 children seen this past year, fellows will have the diverse patient population and experiences necessary to become exceptional pediatric emergency medicine physicians. We are excited to provide a teaching environment for both pediatric and emergency-trained residents pursuing a career in pediatric emergency medicine.

The Children’s Hospital PEM division faculty includes pediatric emergency medicine subspecialists and general pediatricians. All pediatric subspecialty areas and clinical services are well represented at Children’s, with most services providing 24/7 coverage for the Emergency Center.

We are looking for fellows who have a passion to care for a wide variety of pediatric emergencies in patients with diverse backgrounds and potentially complex underlying conditions. Our program celebrates fellow autonomy and drive, while still providing first-rate teaching and patient safety. We offer significant flexibility to tailor each fellow’s experience to support their specific interests (global health, POCUS, EMS, Simulation, etc.) It is our hope that our program is a great fit for you and your continued training.

Mission

Our program will provide training that transforms pediatric and emergency medicine residency graduates into board-certified, independently practicing pediatric emergency medicine physicians. Our graduates will excel in any clinical environment and will be the leaders in the field of pediatric emergency medicine. We aim to foster UNMC’s mission of leading the state in transforming lives to create a healthy future for all individuals and communities through our Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship program.

Vision

To be a leading fellowship program providing its learners with a diverse patient population, mentorship, support and education allowing the fellow to achieve the highest potential as a clinician, educator and researcher in pediatric emergency medicine.
