About Us

Message from the Chair

I am happy to be here in Nebraska and partnered with such a highly regarded rehabilitation facility as Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. The Madonna Omaha campus will opened in the Fall of 2016, and through the efforts of everyone working  there --the physicians, specialized rehabilitation nurses, patient care technicians, social workers, psychologists, nurse case managers and talented therapists (PT, OT and Speech-Language Pathologists) -- we are raising the bar for high-quality inpatient rehabilitation care in Omaha. With the assistance of the Madonna Institute for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering, we provide clinical research opportunities for students and residents, as we work together to improve the lives of Nebraskans with disabling conditions. Further information about the Institute.

As part of Nebraska Medicine, the PM&R department has outpatient locations in several areas of Omaha, including here at the main UNMC campus. We offer a comprehensive evaluation of spine problems, including surgical consultation when needed, and evaluation/treatment of all types of musculoskeletal problems, including painful conditions of the shoulder, hip, knee, and extremities.

As our department continues to grow with the addition of new faculty, we will seek to provide services for patients of all ages.  The next two years will be exciting ones for the department as growth in faculty recruitment spurs the implementation of our newly accredited residency program in PM&R, the first such residency in the upper Midwest region. Our program offers a categorical residency with 4 years of training, the first year consisting of rotations through medical and surgical services, followed by three years of PM&R inpatient and outpatient rotations. We envision training Midwestern and Nebraska medical students who will then stay in this area upon graduation to practice in the Heartland.
