Kai Yang, MD

Dr. Yang is an assistant professor in the division of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Yang is a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with additional fellowship training and board certification in hand and upper extremity surgery. He is also a specialist in peripheral nerve surgery, brachial plexus injuries, lymphatic surgery and microsurgery. He sees patients with various types of traumatic injuries as well as patients with chronic illness such as neuropathies, tendonopathies, arthritis, lymphedema, chronic wounds, etc. Furthermore, he performs comprehensive plastic and reconstructive surgeries following cancer resections, including different types of skin cancers, sarcomas, breast cancers among others. He also has special interests in limb salvage, amputee care and advanced bioprosthetics.
Dr. Yang received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and completed his residency in plastic surgery through the integrated plastic surgery residency program at the Medical College of Wisconsin affiliated hospitals. He then continued to Oregon Health and Science University where he successfully completed his fellowship in the combined plastic and orthopaedic hand surgery fellowship. The scope of training consisted of general and reconstructive plastic surgery, comprehensive upper extremity care including, fracture fixations, soft tissue repair, peripheral nerve surgery including brachial plexus care, and replantation/revascularization. Other areas of focus include targeted muscle reinnervation(TMR)/RPNI, micro and super-microsurgery utilizing free tissue transfers and lymphatic surgeries.
Dr. Yang has been involved with many research projects with publications in the field of hand surgery and plastic surgery, having also presented at several regional and national conferences. He serves on various national and international surgical society committees.
