Jason Johanning, MD, MS, FACS

Dr. Johanning received his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City in 1994; completed his residency in general surgery at Saginaw Cooperative Hospitals Inc., in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1999; and completed a two-year fellowship in vascular surgery from Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, in 2001.

Dr. Johanning is board certified in both general surgery and vascular surgery. His specialty training includes endovascular abdominal and thoracic aortic grafts and carotid artery stenting. He has a particular interest in chronic compartment syndrome in competitive athletes.

His academic appointments include professor of vascular surgery at UNMC, serving as chief of of the division from 2009-2011. He is active in the VA Medical System having served as chief of surgery at Nebraska/Iowa VA Medical Center and currently serves as Veterans Integrated Service Network's chief surgical consultant. His clinical interests focus on the rapid identification of the frail patient to optimize outcomes.

Dr. Johanning has been the recipient of numerous academic awards and honors and is active in resident and community education.
