Neurosurgery

The Section of Neurosurgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center is responsible for the treatment of disorders of the brain, spine and spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system in the adult and pediatric patient. Our neurosurgeons provide state-of-the-art care to patients throughout Nebraska and the neighboring areas of Iowa, South Dakota, Kansas and Missouri.  

We are the primary training site for a residency training program providing education to neurosurgeons, as well as medical students of the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Our residents also train in the fields of emergency medicine, ENT, and orthopedics. Many of these residents will go on to be the physicians for patients in the state of Nebraska.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center and the Nebraska Medical Center are a JCAHO accredited Stroke Center, Epilepsy Center of Excellence, and National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center.

The Nebraska Medical Center has recently been named one of America’s best hospitals in U.S. News & World Report’s 2008 publication of America’s Best Hospitals. 

For the first time, the medical center is ranked for two services, Cancer and Neurology & Neurosurgery.  

In the list of America’s Best Hospitals for cancer care, The Nebraska Medical Center ranked 39th. On the list of best hospitals for Neurology & Neurosurgery, the Nebraska Medical Center is 41st.
