Jon S. Thompson MD, FACS
Dr. Thompson has had a broad general surgery practice emphasizing gastrointestinal procedures for many years. His current practice is the treatment of outpatient anorectal conditions. He has served in a variety of administrative positions, including division chief of general surgery and program director for the general surgery residency. He has held national leadership positions and was a director on the American Board of Surgery. He has had an extensive experience in surgical research, performing both basic science and clinical investigations.

Research Interests
Dr. Thompson's main research focus has been on intestinal failure due to shortened intestine and intestinal dysmotility. Investigations have included prevention of short bowel syndrome, identification of prognostic factors, and surgical treatment. He has been particularly interested in novel surgical techniques, including intestinal regeneration. Clinical studies have included participation in multicenter randomized trials of postoperative pain control, hernia management, and gastric electrical stimulation.
