Research Fields

Educational Outcomes

Measure the impact of experiential learning on improving quality of care, patient safety, and healthcare practice. Evaluate the adoption of high-fidelity simulation and visualization into clinical practice, and skills transfer from a training to practice environment.

Remote learning and tele-training capabilities

Evaluate performance of trainees utilizing high-fidelity simulation and visualization activities during remote learning and tele-training. Opportunities for real-time feedback via audio-visual capture, dedicated debriefing spaces, and multi-site remote leaning capabilities. Outcomes and metrics are available for competency assessment in Live Virtual Constructive Exercises (LVCEs) with various partners, including the US military.

Emerging Technologies & Visualization

Exploring the unprecedented array of 3D, augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR), and high-fidelity simulation environments for training, program and curriculum development, product design, testing and imaging. Collaborative research to develop and test new processes, products, and content. Opportunities for advance learning, teaching and skill development, as well as incorporating these technologies into clinical practice.

Holographic & 3D Imaging
Develop 3D and holographic visualizations to enhance or complement research. Utilize holographic presence for pre-recorded sessions or interactive presentations with an in-person presenter. Bring your research to life by experiencing anatomy, assets, data, or concepts in holographic format.
Clinical Outcomes

Measure the impact of experiential learning on improving quality of care, patient safety, and healthcare practice. Evaluate the adoption of high-fidelity simulation and visualization into clinical practice, skills transfer from a training to practice environment, and cost of healthcare.

Community
Opportunities to adopt high-fidelity simulation, visualization, and tele-training for community training and outreach activities. Evaluate the impact of experiential learning environments on rural training sites, and first responders. Utilize innovative technologies to foster pipeline, recruitment, and retention.
Biopreparedness
Study the processes and procedures related to infectious disease preparedness. Examples of current biopreparedness research include donning and doffing of personal protective equipment, standardized procedures for patient care, multi-modal exploration through hands-on simulation, and complimenting visualization modules.
