Dental hygiene students complete cutting-edge OR simulation

Senior dental hygiene students at the UNMC College of Dentistry experienced what it’s like to treat special needs patients with complex dental conditions in a cutting-edge operating room simulation at the Davis Global Center, UNMC’s highly advanced clinical simulation facility designed to foster patient care within interprofessional teams.

Students learn OR dental protocol – throat packs and periodontal debridements – from Corinne Van Osdel, DDS, an assistant professor, and Andrea Auer, a dental assistant supervisor, both at the UNMC College of Dentistry.
Community Engagement

EMS responders learn from UNMC’s cardiac, stroke care experts

UNMC drew 40 emergency medical responders to the Davis Global Center on Oct. 4 for the Activate EMS Symposium. The event focused on urgent issues in cardiac arrest and stroke care, offering insights from UNMC and Nebraska Medicine’s professionals in those fields. It was hosted by the iEXCEL program, adding a dose of UNMC’s health care simulation capability to the experience.

Wednesday, October 23

Edward O’Leary, MD, associate professor in the UNMC Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and medical director of the Cardiovascular Catheterization Laboratory and of Chest Pain Services, gave a presentation to visiting emergency medical personnel.
Rural Outreach

UNMC’s pathway program event draws 250 students

Col. Tom Leeper with the National Guard Bureau, the federal agency responsible for the administration of the National Guard, was joined by Maj. Gen. Craig Strong, adjutant general of the Nebraska Military Department, Regent Robert Schafer and several others for a schedule that included tours of iEXCEL and the Global Center for Health Security, both headquartered in the Davis Global Center.

iEXCEL forum explores innovation in health professions education

The International Virtual Reality Healthcare Association’s Healthcare Demo Tour comes to UNMC’s Omaha campus Oct. 10 in conjunction with iEXCEL’s two-day Innovation in Health Professions Education Forum.

Perfusion-iEXCEL collaboration yields new training platform

This year saw the inaugural usage of a virtual reality clinical perfusion training platform created by a two-year collaboration between Clinical Perfusion faculty, students, and iEXCEL colleagues. This virtual reality training platform was introduced into the full Clinical Perfusion curriculum starting this Fall semester.
