Training Facilities
Fellows provide inpatient and outpatient care at a free-standing children’s hospital as well as a large university setting.
Children’s Nebraska is a 225-bed nonprofit organization caring for children since 1948. It is the only full-service, pediatric healthcare center in Nebraska providing expertise in more than 50 pediatric specialty services to children across a five-state region and beyond. Children’s Nebraska is home to Nebraska’s only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, a 55-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Fetal Care Center that is the only Level IV NICU in the region, and a 32-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with advanced life support therapies. The PICU is staffed 24/7 with pediatric intensivists, including a dedicated pediatric ECMO team.
Children’s Nebraska also houses a first-in-the-region 32-bed Cardiac Care Unit with advanced cardiac imaging and state-of-the-art interventional cardiac catheterization labs. The 2021, addition of the Hubbard Center expanded the hospital’s surgical space, NICU, cardiac care unit, radiology, and emergency department. In 2026, the hospital opened a 103,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Behavioral Health & Wellness Center, which provides a welcoming, inclusive, and healing environment for children and families.
University of Nebraska Medical Center/Nebraska Medicine is home to Nebraska’s only pediatric kidney transplant program and offers comprehensive kidney transplant services. Our pediatric kidney transplant program receives referrals from across the state of Nebraska and across the region. The Davis Global Center is a highly advanced simulation facility purposefully designed to foster the practice of patient care in high-functioning and effective interprofessional teams. The 192,000 sq. ft. facility is made up of five distinct levels that work together to create a safe and innovative learning environment. The Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning (iEXCEL) is headquartered in the Davis Global Center plays a critical role in education for medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
