Logan Olson, PharmD, BCCCP

Please describe your path to becoming a preceptor for the College of Pharmacy.
I love the education process, and I assisted with student precepting soon after beginning my role atNebraska Medicine. That early exposure encouraged me to apply for primary preceptor status and it’s been a joy to watch a few students I had on rotation as P4’s come back through my rotation as pharmacy residents.

How many years have you served as a preceptor for UNMC?
I have been a preceptor for 7 years.

Please describe your practice site, including the location. What special things do the students get to learn from you?
I practice in the Medical ICU at Nebraska Medicine. Our students learn about mechanical ventilation, shock states, sepsis, acid/base imbalance, pneumonia, liver failure, COPD/asthma, DKA/HHS, and toxic overdoses. There are also opportunities for students to observe in-hospital cardiac arrests and rapid sequence intubations.

What is the most rewarding part of being a preceptor for the College of Pharmacy?
Teaching has always been one of my passions, and it is a great way for me to give back to future pharmacy generations in response to the incredible guidance I received throughout my training experiences. It’s a special opportunity to witness learners grow in knowledge, confidence, and awareness of career opportunities.

If you could give one message to our current students, what would you say?
Take full advantage of every learning opportunity. You have a rare window of time to learn directly from numerous content experts and the initiative you take will determine the trajectory of your career.
