- Search for open postdoc positions at UNMC.
- Identify a mentor that you would like to work with. Find someone whose research ambitions align with your own. Communicate with that mentor and members of their lab. Investigate if it is the right fit.
- Apply for the position or email us for help.
- Research housing and transportation options in Omaha.
- Reach out to other members of your lab and the UNMC community on social media for help and advice.
- Plan a realistic budget according to your salary. The cost of living in Omaha is generally lower than the national average, but it is a major metropolitan area and housing around the UNMC campus can be expensive.
- Develop an understanding of your lab culture.
- Attend all required training from UNMC Human Resources
- Complete postdoc orientation.
- Understand that your postdoctoral training extends beyond the lab. UNMC is a global research institution with extensive resources including the:

- Office for Global Engagement if you are an international scholar
- Office of Interactive E-Learning
- Writing Center @ UNMC
- Prepare for an independent career
- Attend workshops and seminars from the Office of Postdoctoral Education and other campus entities.
- Begin to work toward the Certificate Programs.

- Use your annual review to assess your career goals
- Refine your skills for the next stage of your career by attending workshops and seminars
