Behavioral Health for All
Dear colleagues, trainees, patients and advocates for mental health:
As we prepare to celebrate our centennial in 2021, it is my honor to welcome you to the UNMC Department of Psychiatry!
Our team embraces these principles for success across all mission areas:
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Antiracism are the foundation of our work
- Public health requires community, media and social media engagement
- Interprofessional education enriches learning across all professions
- Psychological safety is needed for quality improvement
As the chair, I have had the privilege of working on several national initiatives to add gender equity in medicine. Malala Yousafzai’s quote echoes across our department: “we cannot succeed when half of us are held back.” As a former state workforce director, I deeply believe in our responsibility to train a culturally and linguistically diverse workforce.
We are a department on the move! In the last three years, we have launched a new adult psychiatry residency program, created a compassionate Adult Psychiatric Emergency Services, developed new subspecialty clinics. Our department benefits from talented faculty such as the campus-wide leaders for Inclusion and Wellness at UNMC.
I invite you to follow us on social media and via our newsletters to see how we live our values.
If this sounds like your department, we hope you join us! There is no health without mental health, and we must be advocates for our patients, partners with our communities, mentors for our students and pioneers in the science of psychiatry.
Cheers,
