How to Apply

Dr. Hwang talks with students

Thank you for your interest in the Psychiatry Residency Training Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Please carefully review the following information and related links before submitting your application through ERAS.

Applicants must be registered with the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to be eligible to receive an interview. The program uses National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for its PGY-1 positions.

For the 2024 cycle, our program encourages all applicants to complete all sections previously found in the supplemental ERAS application, including the most meaningful experiences, geographic preference, and signal. Our program received an average of 558 applications per year for the past four cycles.

Additional information about what's new in the 2024 MyERAS Application can be found here

Our Match Pledge

  • Our five PGY-1 positions will start July 1, 2024, and we will interview 50 candidates.
  • We do not require the USMLE from applicants graduating from Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • We will not invite more candidates to interview than we have interview slots available.
  • Interviews will be offered on/after September 29, 2023. Invitations will go out in the late afternoon.
  • If you are genuinely interested in our program, apply on time with all application materials in ERAS (three letters of recommendation, exam scores, etc.) A candidate who may have a special consideration, including those in a couples match can reach out to our program. (These situations should ideally be detailed in your personal statement.) We cannot guarantee an individualized response to every inquiry.
  • Transfer from other residency programs will be considered. Residents from other neurology and psychiatry training programs will be given first preference.
  • All interviews will be virtual.
  • Candidates with incomplete applications will not be ranked. A passing score on COMLEX Level 2 or USMLE Step 2 must be received before the Rank Order List Certification Deadline.
