What do you do at UNMC?
I currently serve as Director of the Advanced Standing Dental Program which is an accelerated dental program for internationally trained dentists. I also direct preclinical courses that develop hand skills and critical thinking for dental students in restorative dentistry.

Tell us about your educational research interests and teaching role.
My recent research has focused on student-faculty collaborations on the creation and usefulness of e-modules in dentistry, impact of COVID -19 on admissions to advanced standing dental programs, assessment tools to learn occlusion concepts and CAD-CAM restorative restoration designs.

It is exciting to work collaboratively with different groups of faculty. My involvement in Design Thinking and e-module development with projects outside the dental field has helped me approach initiatives at the College of Dentistry with a better lens for problem solving.

I have experience working with the American Dental Association and regional testing agencies in test construction, calibration, development of psychomotor skills assessment for dentists and dental hygienists as well as dental assistants.

What is one of your favorite/memorable teaching moments?
Each of my favorite teaching moments center around an opportunity to witness the joy both student clinicians and patients share as they achieve a successful outcome in a challenging situation. Happy patient and confident clinician…nothing is better.

What do you see as the biggest benefit to being a member of the IAE?
I am grateful to IAE for opening opportunities to remain a constant learner as a faculty member and share pathways for clear and efficient learning. I am located on the Lincoln campus, so IAE has helped me connect with faculty from other colleges at UNMC and provided introductions to experts for learning new skills. This has assisted with mentoring students and collaborating with my College of Dentistry colleagues. IAE is a group that inspires!

What's the best advice you've ever received?
Be grateful for the simple things in life.
