Sealant Program

The Department of Dental Hygiene's Sealant Program offers the following services free of charge to children in second, third and sixth grades*:

  • sealants
  • fluoride varnish
  • exams
  • referral
  • oral health education

* Elementary school selection is based on greater than 80% student eligibility in the free/reduced lunch program.

From 2012-2019:

  • 4,800 children served
  • $4.5 million in services provided
  • 20 schools in Nebraska each year

The Sealant Program connects the neediest children in our communities with the vastly needed preventive dental services provided through this program.

As a lasting resource for our community, the Sealant Program fosters preventive behaviors and attitudes about oral health that can last a lifetime as well as contribute to a reduction in the need for expensive restorative and emergency dental services.

Ultimately, all families are referred to local public health agencies or educational institutions to assist parents in finding a dental home for their children.
