Revolutionizing eye care in Nebraska, beyond
With the Truhlsen Eye Institute's cutting-edge research, education and patient care, UNMC joined the ranks of national centers of excellence in ophthalmology. Combining state-of-the art diagnostic medicine with the latest advances in clinical research, the Institute brings hope to patients suffering from blinding diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, corneal dystrophies, uveitis and other ocular inflammatory diseases.
Through UNMC's partnership with Nebraska Medicine, the Institute serves as a preeminent provider of routine eye care, cataract surgery, LASIK, diabetic eye disease, eye inflammation, pediatric eye problems, eyelid disorders, and eye trauma services for this region. The Institute also includes the UNMC Department of Ophthalmology and the Carl Camras Center for Innovative Clinical Research.
Located in a $20 million, 54,536-square-foot facility on the UNMC campus, the Truhlsen Eye Institute's main location features outpatient eye exam facilities, an optical shop, and a comprehensive regional diagnostic center. Four rooms for ophthalmic surgeries in the Fritch Surgery Center are connected to the Institute by pedestrian crosswalk.
