Student Exchange

We coordinate short-term research and health professional exchange programs between UNMC and partnering institutions.

Our partners are integral in the delivery of these exchange programs, which foster diversity and cultural understanding. They encourage global friendships and provide opportunities to widen students' perspectives and professional networks.

Please note that our exchange programs are on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fields of Study

UNMC has established student exchange programs in the following fields. We are always open to discussing new programs and partnerships. Feel free to contact us.

College of Medicine

Since 2005, we have coordinated short-term health professional exchange programs between UNMC’s College of Medicine and the partnering institutions of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Tongji University, and Capital Medical University. Each year, medical students visit one another’s institutions for one to three months of medical clinical training.

Students at our partner institutions in China who wish to do clinical rotations at UNMC should contact the international office of their university.

College of Nursing
Since 2006, we have coordinated short-term health professional exchange programs between UNMC’s College of Nursing and the partnering institutions of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Tongji University and Xi’an Jiaotong University. Each year, students visit one another’s institutions for one month of nursing clinical training.
Research

Since 2010, we have worked with select universities to bring exceptional students to Omaha to work under the guidance of one of UNMCs outstanding researchers. Students complete six-, eight- or 12-week rotations at UNMC, allowing them to do research in some of the most cutting-edge research facilities in the world. Participants also make deep connections with UNMC faculty and students who introduce them to laboratory research techniques, advise them in their research, and encourages them in their progress.

Our Summer Research Program invites Chinese students to spend the summer working under the guidance of one of UNMC’s outstanding researchers.
