International Visitors
The Office of Global Engagement has resumed processing new non-clinical international visitor registrations. Clinical trainees and observers remain prohibited, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
All international visitors of seven days or more are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to arrival. There are no exceptions to this requirement.Who is an international visitor?
- A non-U.S. citizen or non-U.S. permanent resident who is not paid by UNMC nor enrolled in a UNMC accredited academic program.
- A non-U.S. citizen or non-U.S. permanent resident who visits UNMC regardless of the duration of their visit (from a few hours to one year or more).
- Any visiting dignitary of another country visiting UNMC.
- Any international non-faculty volunteers.
The UNMC International Visitors Policy is designed to enable the university to host international visitors while reducing risk and protecting the interests of the university, its visitors, and the community it serves. It also provides a means to track international visitors for compliance and risk-management purposes.
Sponsoring Department
The sponsoring departments must register all international visitors through the Office of Global Engagement in order to assure that all compliance requirements are fulfilled before visitors' arrival, including compliance training (Canvas), background check, export control check, immunizations and health insurance depending on visitors' duration, visa type and activities at UNMC. The Office of Global Engagement also will issue the approval for access to the UNMC network and process the international visitor photo ID badge.
The sponsoring department is also responsible for providing and documenting training specific to the areas the visitors will be visiting:
- Safe equipment operations, if applicable.
- Emergency procedures.
- Hazardous materials present in the areas to be visited.
- Hazardous locations in areas to be visited.
- Necessary personal safety equipment.
- Reporting accidents, near misses and injuries.
