Summer Physical Therapy Program

International students have an opportunity to develop a global perspective on rehabilitation and to learn about physical therapy in U.S.

The UNMC Summer Experiential Education (SEED) in physical therapy is a two-week, in-person summer program designed for international physical therapy and rehabilitation students, who are interested in developing a global perspective of rehabilitation, to learn physical therapy education, research and practice in the United States.

2024 Program (Application open)

Our two-week, in-person summer program includes lectures, research experience, clinical observation and cultural activities.

Program content

The SEED program will include sessions such as lectures, clinical observation, research experiences and cultural exposure.

Lectures

Faculty from the UNMC physical therapy education program will lead 2-3 hours of lecture that include the following topics, but are not limit to:

  • Introduction to the US physical therapy education
  • Major topics in Physical Therapy including neurology, orthopedics, cardiopulmonary, pediatrics and cancer rehabilitation.
  • Leadership and professionalism.

Research experience

  • Faculty from the UNMC physical therapy education program will take students to different research labs at UNMC and share with them the current cutting-edge research programs.

Clinical observation

  • The SEED program will arrange students to visit different physical therapy and rehabilitation practice settings in Nebraska. Here are several examples of clinical sites:

    • Nebraska Medicine
    • Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital
    • Fyzical Therapy & Balance Centers
    • Hillcrest Health Services
    • Quality Living, Inc.

Cultural activities

  • The SPECS program will arrange different local activities to help students to better understanding US culture. For example:

    • Durham Museum tour
    • Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium tour
    • Nebraska State Capitol tour
    • Jazz on the Green concert
Program fee

The fee for the 2024 SEED program is $3,000 USD. This program fee includes training and administration fees, training-related transportation, lodging, and board (for two weeks). You will be responsible for the other costs such as round-trip airfare and health insurance.
