A 51-year-old man died of the Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) virus, commonly known as Congo fever, which causes severe viral haemorrhagic fever outbreaks. The man, identified as Mohanbhai, was a cattle breeder. He was admitted to a hospital on January 21 and died during treatment on January 27.
His blood sample was sent to a laboratory in Pune, which confirmed the presence of the virus.
