Washington Post Pharmacies and state health departments are scrambling to adapt to the confusion over a vaccine that is no longer broadly recommended. Getting an updated coronavirus vaccine can be particularly challenging this year.
The Food and Drug Administration approved those shots for people who are 65 and older or have underlying conditions that elevate their risk of severe disease, narrowing the pool of Americans who have easy access to the shots.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also appointed critics of coronavirus vaccines to a key Centers for Disease Control and Prevention committee that recommends immunization (and may add more). That committee isn’t scheduled to meet to discuss coronavirus vaccines until Sept. 18, and its decision will guide doctors, insurance companies and states in how they ensure Americans have access to the shots.
