Frederick F. Paustian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center

Opened in 2022, the Frederick F. Paustian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center is one of the top facilities in the country for the treatment and research of inflammatory bowel disease.

 

The IBD Center is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of inflammatory bowel disease patients by delivering effective cutting-edge IBD health services through our clinical partner Nebraska Medicine, creating new knowledge through research that fills critical gaps to guide development of future treatments, and by educating and training health care professionals to serve patients now and in years to come.

Our Facility

The Frederick F. Paustian IBD Center is a multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to the care of IBD patients and the performance of IBD research.

The 3,800-square-foot space is located on the second floor of the Lied Tower on UNMC's main campus.

The center includes:

  • Seven exam rooms including one specifically equipped for colorectal surgery outpatient procedures.
  • A separate consultation room for the conduct of clinical research.
  • Equipment such as a Sorvall ST1R plus MD centrifuge, a Thermo Scientific refrigerator/freezer and -20oC freezer.
  • Utility rooms for sample processing and research material storage.

The Paustian IBD Center is a unique organization that integrates IBD patient care, research, education, and training into every encounter for patients and providers. Our immediate goals are to relieve disease and restore health to our patients. Our long term goals are to effectively prevent, fully reverse and finally cure inflammatory bowel disease.

Nebraska Medicine is UNMC's clinical partner and offers information about inflammatory bowel disease and finding a physician.

Nebraska Food for Health Center

Dr. Mannon and the IBD Center collaborate with the Nebraska Food for Health Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and its director, Andrew Benson, PhD, who is looking at dietary factors that collectively influence composition and function of the gut microbiome.

What is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)?

Inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, affects millions of people worldwide. Many suffer frequent flare-ups of these chronic diseases, but treatment can help. The gastroenterologists at the Frederick F. Paustian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center understand how IBD disrupts gut function and can run necessary tests to determine the disease source and best treatment options.
