Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Maternal-Fetal Medicine at UNMC
Maternal-Fetal Medicine is a subspecialty of obstetrics focused on the care of patients with high-risk pregnancies and complex maternal or fetal conditions. At UNMC, our MFM team combines advanced clinical expertise with a strong commitment to education, research, and collaborative care.
What We Do
- Provide comprehensive management of high-risk pregnancies, including maternal complications and fetal anomalies.
- Offer advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as detailed ultrasound, invasive prenatal testing, and delivery planning for complex cases.
- Lead interdisciplinary care that integrates obstetrics, neonatology, genetics, and other specialties to optimize outcomes for both mother and baby.
Educational Mission
Our section is dedicated to training the next generation of physicians in Maternal-Fetal Medicine principles:
- Medical students gain exposure to high-risk obstetrics through clerkship rotations, electives, and simulation-based learning that strengthen diagnostic reasoning and clinical confidence.
- Residents develop advanced skills in ultrasound, prenatal procedures, and evidence-based management of complex pregnancies, preparing them for success in any practice setting—whether general obstetrics or subspecialty care.
