Residents Life

The life of a resident at the Department of Pediatrics contains so much more than just learning and treating patients. Here are some of the activities our residents experience.

Resident Academic Activities

Funding is provided for resident scholarly activity and presentation at conferences (locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally). We love seeing our residents take advantage of this great opportunity to present their hard work and shine! Additionally, our residents enjoy robust research support through the Child Health Research Institute (CHRI). Several of our residents have published their research in a variety of peer-reviewed journals.

A popular academic event is the Pediatric Research Forum presented by CHRI.

Other conferences that our residents have presented at:

  • Children's Nebraska Grand Rounds
  • Pediatric Academic Societies national meeting
  • Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) national meeting
  • Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP) national meeting
  • Pediatric Hospital Medicine national meeting
  • American Academy of Pediatrics National Meeting and Exhibition
  • Regional Academic Pediatric Association meetings
  • And many more!

Social Life

Gatherings outside of work are a must and Omaha has provided many opportunities for social events. One of the most popular options is Happy Hour and the possibilities of places are endless. It’s a great way to gather after work with friends and co-workers and unwind from the busy day. Also, group dinners at one of the many restaurants in Omaha are always a crowd favorite. Whether downtown in the Old Market, at the Dundee Dell, or somewhere in west Omaha, we always find a different place with varied cuisine and atmosphere.

There are many opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities together. The crowd favorite each summer is “Jazz on the Green”. Every Thursday evening, throughout July and August, hundreds of people gather on the lawn at Midtown Crossing with blankets and picnic baskets to relax and listen to live jazz bands. Other outdoor events include Storm Chaser baseball games, the famous College World Series, and of course trips to the Zoo. Everyone knows you cannot visit or live in Omaha without going to the Zoo at least once.
