ABSITE Policy

All residents are required to score at or above the 35th percentile on the annual ABSITE exam. The UNMC general surgery residency program has an ABSITE Club, in which residents scoring below at or below the 35th percentile will be enrolled. Residents may also be required to complete a practice exam as part of the mentoring program.

  • First-year residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile will be placed in the ABSITE Club
  • Second-year residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile will be placed in the ABSITE Club. Residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile for both the first and second years will continue in the ABSITE Club and may be subject to remedial action.
  • Third-year residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile will be placed in the ABSITE Club. Residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile for both the second and third years will continue in the ABSITE Club and may be subject to remedial action.
  • Fourth-year residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile will be placed in the ABSITE Club. Residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile for both the third and fourth years will continue in the ABSITE Club and may be subject to remedial action.
  • Fifth-year residents scoring at or below the 35th percentile may be subject to remedial action including but not limited to canceling travel to research meetings. The purpose of these actions is to redirect the residents to improve their fund of knowledge and thereby improve performance on the Board examinations.
