Bio

What do you do at UNMC?
I teach Pharmacy Law & Ethics. I'm the wonk of the department, so I also teach policy issues. I am the faculty advisor for the students' policy group as a part of the Association of Students of Pharmacy and the faculty advisor for Phi Lambda Sigma - the pharmacy leaders honorary. I get to serve on the UNMC-Nebraska Medicine Legislative Committee.

Tell us about your educational research interests and teaching role.
I have always been interested in community pharmacy and patient care. Finding ways to help our students and Nebraska's pharmacists provide exceptional care to their patients are my favorite policy projects. Working on the interprofessional vaccine and tuberculosis screening clinic with student health is my campus project of longest duration.

What is one of your favorite/memorable teaching moments?
The first time I taught Over-the-Counter Products, a student created a funny class presentation. It was an in-person class back then and the other students in the class laughed almost as hard as I did. There are two reasons I remember this so well. The presentation was remembered by the students at an event sponsored by the alumni association a year later. I was moved that the students remembered. The other reason is that my daughter was a member of that class and so was a current colleague.

I had the amazing opportunity to present at InnovatED with two students a couple of years ago and I get the opportunity to do that again in September of this year. We cannot always afford to take students to meetings to be able to present with them, but when the opportunity is on our campus, it's perfect. The IAE helps us do more than celebrate the membership, it also helps us to allow our students to know how much education means to the members.

What's the best advice you've ever recieved?
My mom told me never to love anyone or anything that can't love you back. She was right, of course.
