Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship

Our fellowship provides an integrated experience between two world-class institutions, UNMC and Children’s Nebraska.

Our ACGME-accredited fellowship offers broad-based clinical experiences, such as:

  • General pediatric anesthesiology
  • Pediatric cardiac anesthesiology
  • Pediatric and neonatal intensive care
  • Pediatric pain management

Our goal for fellowship is to train and mentor future pediatric anesthesiologists to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide advanced peri-operative care to children of all ages. This experience includes anesthesia for all pediatric surgical subspecialties, acute and chronic pediatric pain management, and medical/surgical care involving routine and critically ill pediatric patients. We are committed to providing each fellow with the highest quality experience and education.

We offer two fellowship positions each year. 

Educational Series

  • Weekly fellow lecture series directed at preparation for the pediatric anesthesiology board exam
  • Daily rotation-specific pediatric anesthesiology keyword discussion including written board questions
  • Bi-monthly Pediatric Anesthesia Journal Club
  • Monthly Quality Improvement and Patient Safety conferences
  • Cardiac care multidisciplinary conferences
  • Simulation experience, including full-length oral board and OSCE examinations
  • Participation in the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology ECHO bootcamp
  • Visiting Professor Grand Rounds
  • Participation in national pediatric anesthesiology fellow bootcamps
  • Attendance and participation in the Society for Pediatric Anesthesiology Annual Spring Meeting
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification

Required Rotations

  • Six general rotations
  • Two cardiac rotations
  • One pain management rotation
  • One NICU/PICU/CICU rotation

Elective Rotations

  • Operative room management
  • Advanced pediatric pain management
  • Pediatric cardiology/pediatric echocardiography
  • Research
  • Interventional cardiology
  • Advanced ambulatory

Application Process

Two positions are available per year, and prospective fellows must have successfully completed an Anesthesiology residency at an ACGME-accredited residency program.

We participate in the common application and match process provided by SF Match for recruitment. Applicants will register with and apply to our program through the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship with SF Match Portal. 

 

  • Application registration begins Jan. 8, 2024.
  • Application deadline is Apr. 30, 2024.

 

Applicants selected for a formal interview will be extended an invitation for a virtual interview in April/May.

Flexible start date of July 1 or Aug. 1, 2025.
