General Dermatology and Subspecialties

Dermatology trainees at the University of Nebraska Medical Center have the opportunity to train in many subspecialties and with expert faculty.

In addition to our comprehensive programs in Mohs and dermatologic surgery, dermatopathology, laser and aesthetic dermatology, and pediatric dermatology, our faculty provice care through UNMC's primary clinical partner, Nebraska Medicine, in dedicated subspecialty and multidisciplinary clinics in dermatology.

Dermatology Training Opportunities

Trainees will work with expert UNMC faculty in providing care through subspecialty and multidisciplinary clinics provided through Nebraska Medicine.

Dermatology-Rheumatology Clinic
Held twice per month, this multidisciplinary clinic boasts expertise in both dermatology and rheumatology with co-directors Megan Arthur, MD, Sarah Lonowski, MD, and Jennifer Medlin, MD. Patients with lupus, dermatomyositis, scleroderma, morphea, mixed connective tissue disease, and more are seen and enrolled in clinical trials, a prospective clinical derm-rheum database/tissue biobank.
Autoimmune Bullous/Blistering Disease Clinic

The Bullous Disease Clinic specializes in autoimmune diseases of the skin. The clinic, offered twice a month, is co-directed by Corey Georgesen, MD, and Erin Barrett, MD. This clinic provides cutting-edge clinical trials and allows patients to receive the most up-to-date treatment for bullous diseases.

 

Cutaneous Lymphoma Clinic
Matthew Stephany, MD, works with UNMC faculty in medical oncology, radiation oncology, dermatopathology and hematopathology. UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are renowned for the research, diagnosis and treatment of lymphoma, with patients coming from around the world.
HIV/Infectious Disease Dermatology Clinic
This clinic is held monthly at the Specialty Care Center. Jennifer Adams, MD, works with UNMC faculty who are experts in infectious diseases to diagnose and treat cutaneous manifestations of HIV and other cutaneous infectious diseases.
Hansen's Disease National Site
Jennifer Adams, MD, is an expert in infectious disease and tropical medicine dermatology and sees patients on a regular and referral basis for cutaneous leprosy. She works closely with the National Hansen's Disease Program. Our department is a referral center in the Midwest for this disease.
Skin of Color / Ethnic Skin Dermatology Clinic
Led by Erin Barrett, MD, this clinic offers specialized services for patients of color (defined as skin types IV-VI in the Fitzpatrick Skin Type Classification) or ethnic skin. The clinic addresses dermatologic concerns unique to these patients, including acne, eczema, hair loss/breakage/thinning, keloids, pigmentary disorders (vitiligo, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), and ingrown hairs/razor bumps (aka pseudofolliculitis barbae). Dr. Barrett works closely with our resident physicians and with Ronald Sulewski MD, director of laser and aesthetic dermatology, to offer specialized chemical peels, laser treatments, and other minimally invasive techniques.
Transplant Dermatology Clinics
Vanessa Voss, MD, partners with Nebraska Medicine heart, lung, kidney, pancreas/small bowel, and stem cell transplant teams through multidisciplinary clinics before and after transplants.
Erythropoeitic Protoporphyria National Center 
Megan Arthur, MD, and Jennifer Adams, MD, provide care for all types of porphyria and are trained in the placement of Scenesse, an implanted device that delivers afamelanotide to increase tolerance to the sun and light in adults with a confirmed diagnosis of erythropoeitic protoporphyria, a condition that causes increased sensitivity to sunlight and artificial light sources.
