International Education Week

Culture Expo during the 2024 International Education Week.

The annual UNMC International Education Week is a campus-wide event held during the fall semester and features customs, foods and attire from a variety of ethnicities and cultures represented at UNMC.

Monday, Nov. 17

Education Abroad Lunch and Learn - Winnie Ladu (Session 1)
12-1 p.m.
PDD 1026

Learn about current UNMC Medical students who have conducted research projects abroad. This event will feature Winnie Ladu, College of Medicine Student Class of 2028, who created a project titled “The Effects of Maternal Malnutrition on Birthing Outcomes – A Retrospective Study on Neonatal Survival in Kajokeji, South Sudan.”  She will share her experience, as well as her journey to establish her project partners abroad. Lunch will be provided for the first 30 participants. This event is co-sponsored by Office of Global Engagement and Student Alliance for Global Health.

Salsa Night
6 p.m.
UNMC Center for Healthy Living   

Nebraska Salsa Scene will give a one-hour introduction on how to salsa dance. The lesson will be followed by dancing and fun in the Center for Healthy Living. This event is co-sponsored by the International Student Association, Latino Medical Student Association and Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science.

Celebrate the vibrant cultures of our UNMC community at the International Culture Expo! Explore cultural displays, foods, clothing, music and traditions from around the world, all shared by your fellow, students, faculty and staff. Walk through a global experience right on campus and discover what makes each culture unique, while also finding the connections that bring us all together. Join the International Student Association for a session with international alumni. Dan Teet, UNMC Office of Global Engagement, will also join the panel. Learn about other students’ experience navigating the job market after graduation and the challenges that are unique to international students.

Cricket Intro

UNMC Center for Healthy Living

Join us for a Cricket Intro Session with the Omaha Cricket Association at the UNMC Center for Healthy Living. You’ll learn the basics of this exciting international sport, how to bat, bowl and field, right from local cricket enthusiasts. No experience needed! Just bring your curiosity, some energy and get ready to have fun!

Learn about current UNMC Medical students who participated in service projects abroad. This event will feature McKenna Gervais and Creighton Harrington, College of Medicine Students Class of 2028, who traveled to Mexico as a part of UNMC’s Scott Scholars partnership with the University of Anáhuac Veracruz. Lunch will be provided for the first 20 participants.
