Flamingo Flocking for Developmental Disabilities Awareness
The Flamingo Flocking Fundraiser was created by the Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) at UNMC to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all areas of community life, as well as awareness to the barriers that people with disabilities still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live. The UNMC Student Alliance for People of All Abilities (SAPA) partners with us for this event.
For a small donation, our highly skilled, trained technicians place pink flamingos on front lawns to rest for 2-4 days until they mysteriously migrate to another location. The birds come with a sign that says, 'You've been flocked for Developmental Disabilities Awareness' and an instruction sheet about what to do if recipients want to 'pay it forward'.
This flocking is done in good spirits, so thank you for your support and sense of humor. You do not have to be flocked before you can order a flocking so sign up to flock your family, friends, neighbors and colleagues and we'll schedule your flocking as soon as possible.
Funds raised support UNMC SAPA initiatives that advance disability awareness and inclusion.
Were you flocked?
Congratulations! You've Been Flocked [view the PDF flyer]
Share the fun and spread awareness! Post a photo on social media and tag us.
Advocacy Tip: Do make your post public and include these hashtags: #IveBeenFlocked #DDawareness #unmcMMI #unmcSAPA
Safety Tip: Don’t include personal identifiers in the photo (your address/house number or license plates).
So, what now?
Ordinarily, this would be your chance to pay it forward, sending the flock to an address of your choice for a $30 donation to SAPA. Or, a $20 donation would send the birds to roost in a location of our technician’s choice. Of course, you can always contact our team to have the flock removed for free.
Our flocking season has come to an end
Please check back - when we are ready to start flocking again, this page will be updated with an order form and all the details you need to flock a friend, neighbor or co-worker!
Thank you Omaha
Our trained technicians have delivered flocks all over town! These birds have roosted in many yards to create curiosity and raise awareness for disabilities.
Thank you for your support and advocacy for developmental disabilities awareness!
