Diabetes in Pregnancy Collaborative Clinic

Coordinated Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Diabetes Care

The Diabetes in Pregnancy Clinic is a collaborative, weekly outpatient clinic led by the Division of Maternal‑Fetal Medicine (MFM) in partnership with the Division of Endocrinology at UNMC.

The clinic is designed for patients whose pregnancies are complicated by pre-pregnancy diabetes, both Type 1 and Type 2. Through coordinated consultation with both MFM and Endocrinology providers, patients and families receive integrated guidance to support informed, shared decision‑making that is aimed at minimizing pregnancy risks associated with diabetes.

Pregnant with type 1 diabetes
Pregnant with type 2 diabetes
Gestational diabetes requiring medication (GDMA2)

Referral Contact Information

Care Model

Referrals are welcome for one‑time consultation or ongoing care. Endocrinology care is provided by the Division of Endocrinology, with same‑day MFM consultation. Care may include co‑management or transfer of prenatal care, depending on patient and provider preference. The clinic meets weekly on Thursday afternoons.

Clinic Highlights

Joint MFM/Endocrinology visits allow both teams to access a patients diabetes technology, continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps, to allow for real time interpretation of blood glucose data and insulin infusion settings
Subspecialty collaborative counseling, using real time blood glucose data, to work with families to reduce the risk of pregnancy complications from diabetes
Advanced ultrasound imaging coordinated with joint provider visits consolidates time commitments of families to a single afternoon appointment

Clinic Location and Schedule

The Diabetes in Pregnancy Clinic meets on Thursday afternoons in the Olson Center for Women's Health, located on the 4^th floor of the Durham Outpatient Center.
