Meet the Vice Chair for Research
B. Timothy Baxter, MD was recruited to UNMC after completing medical school and surgical residency in Colorado and a fellowship in peripheral vascular surgery at Northwestern University. For the past 10 years he continued his research at UNMC while his clinical practice was at the Methodist hospital. In 2011, he rejoined UNMC fulltime because of the opportunity to help grow the research endeavor. This growth will be based, in part, on four new NIH-funded grants obtained by department members during the past year in the areas of regenerative medicine, transplantation and cardiovascular research. These projects, in addition to active collaborations in the area of oncology provide a rich environment for surgery residents interested in academic careers as independent investigators. As the Vice Chair for Research, his job is to promote and help execute an ambitious research plan for the department.
Mission: To expand and improve the research enterprise and resident training through acquisition of additional extramural funding for programmatic development and training.
Vision: Over the next five years, the goal for the department of surgery at UNMC is to be among the top tier of programs in performing nationally recognized, extramurally funded clinical and basic research.
