Why EMBRACE Matters

Maternal health outcomes in Nebraska reflect a convergence of structural, geographic, and systemic challenges that require coordinated, evidence‑based responses. Despite advances in obstetric care, preventable maternal morbidity and mortality persist, with disproportionate impact on rural communities and historically marginalized populations.

The EMBRACE initiative was developed to address these challenges through an academic, statewide approach that integrates research, education, data science, and community partnership rather than isolated clinical interventions.

Why EMBRACE Matters to Providers

  • Supports frontline clinicians with system level evidence-based programs
  • Strengthens statewide access to Maternal-Fetal Medicine support for maternal care
  • Reduces barriers to subspecialty support
  • Improves postpartum follow up
  • Provides evidence-based tools and actionable data for managing high risk patients
  • Aligns local practice with Nebraska’s broader obstetrical transformation efforts
  • Addresses Nebraska’s high maternal mortality rate (25.1 per 100,000 births), among the highest in the Midwest
  • Supports rural and underserved communities, where maternal mortality is nearly twice as high in urban areas
