Mission

The mission of the UNMC's College of Medicine is to lead the world in transforming lives to create a healthy future for all individuals and communities through premier educational programs, innovative research and extraordinary patient care. In alignment with this mission, the Child Neurology residency aims to develop physicians who excel in delivering exceptional care, advancing research, pursuing ongoing education and development and advocating for the needs of children. Our goal is for our graduates to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children with neurological disorders and their families.

Aims:

• Through access to Children's Nebraska's and UNMC's wide-ranging academic and community resources, residents will learn to provide evidence-based, family-centered care to children and their families.
• Through use of resources at the Child Health Research Institute, residents will receive robust support for developing research projects and producing high-quality academic writing.
• Through Children's Nebraska's and UNMC's commitment to quality and safety and development of a broad array of clinical pathways, residents will learn to assess safety issues, deliver consistent, high-quality care and streamline treatment processes.
• Through access to faculty with expertise in all aspects of neurology, including epilepsy, headache, functional Neurologic disorder, neuromuscular disorders and many others, residents will obtain a well-rounded clinical and educational experience that will equip them for successful independent clinical practice in any healthcare setting.

What Sets Us Apart

Our residents enjoy the advantage of working in two world-class facilities: UNMC's large university hospital setting and Children's Nebraska's free-standing pediatric hospital. There are clinical, educational and research opportunities at each site. 

Additionally within our program, residents have access to institutional resources through the Child Health Research Institute (CHRI), which provides support, collaboration opportunities and potential funding for pediatric-focused scholarly projects.
