Program Overview
Child Neurology is a unique program that requires residents to complete 2 years of Pediatric Residency, 1 year of Adult Neurology rotations, and 2 years of Child Neurology rotations. Each year of pediatric-focused residency contains twelve 1-month rotations. The adult neurology year contains thirteen 4-week rotations. Residents have 4 weeks of vacation per academic year.
Residents follow an individualized learning plan that guides their educational experience based on personal career goals and interests. While a sample plan of study is provided below, schedules remain flexible to accommodate individualization.

Residents that complete our 5-year Child Neurology track will be eligible to sit for the General Pediatrics Certifying Examination. The UNMC Pediatric Residency program tailors the 2-year prerequisite training in Pediatrics to fulfill the training requirements of both the ABP and the ABPN. A sample plan for that training is listed below.

Research Opportunities
The GME Education Research Collaborative at UNMC fosters house officer-driven qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods education research projects. The collaborative can assist house officers with all aspects of education research, including applications, study design, manuscript preparation, and presentation development.
The Child Health Research Institute is committed to training the next generation of child health investigators. CHRI offers various ways to get students and trainees involved in research, including trainee membership, training, supervision, and mentorship.
Our faculty also currently have labs doing research in Pediatric Neurology topics. We are always happy to connect residents with the best faculty to mentor in the learner’s areas of interest!
