Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship

UNMC offers a one-year, full time, ACGME-accredited fellowship in forensic psychiatry. The UNMC Forensic Psychiatry fellowship program's mission is to provide a broad educational program that will train fellows on the complex intersection of psychiatry, ethics and law.
Fellows will become proficient in the basics of criminal and civil law, with an emphasis on how public policy and sociocultural factors impact individuals involved in the public psychiatry system. This multidisciplinary fellowship program allows for close interaction with attorneys, judges, forensic psychologists and other justice involved public servants.
Training in a state with a unicameral legislature allows unique opportunities for connection and promotion of mental health policy. An emphasis is placed on community support and collaboration to facilitate diversion and mental health rehabilitation. Fellows will have the opportunity to engage with the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska, a system that supports behavioral health workforce development, promotes mental healthcare policy development and fosters mental health resources for justice involved populations. Upon graduation, fellows will be prepared to practice in all areas of forensic psychiatry, including academic, correctional and private practice.
