The Department of Surgical Specialties encompasses the dental clinical disciplines of endodontics, periodontics and oral/maxillofacial surgery. The full-time departmental faculty are all specially trained within their particular discipline with most achieving diplomate status in their specialty boards. The department teaches a rigorous undergraduate program in all three specialty areas. Additionally, the sections of endodontics and periodontics offer postgraduate programs.
The faculty has a significant commitment to scholarly pursuits as well as teaching. The department has a large research component with grant support coming from various sources. Scholarly publications from original research are widely embraced in the national dental community. The department is very active in providing dental continuing education at local, regional and national venues.
