M4 Elective

EMED-733 Trauma Center/Emergency Department

Periods Offered: Each four weeks
Student Limit: 4

This elective is available for current UNMC 4th year medical students and must be pre-arranged with the student clerkship coordinator. This experience is at the Nebraska Medical Center, which is a large community and academic emergency department and Level 1 Trauma Center.   Students will evaluate and manage patients under direct supervision of an attending physician. Additional exposure to specialized areas of Emergency Medicine are included with experiences with Hyperbaric Medicine and Toxicology/Poison Center.  Optional exposure to Emergency Medical Services are available as well.  Students will attend dedicated didactics and educational experiences which include simulation, procedure labs and cadaver labs.    Final rotation grades are compiled from performance on shifts, student presentations and final test. 

Students interested in pursuing Emergency Medicine as a career are strongly encouraged to arrange a meeting with Dr Amy Cutright, Clerkship Director to assist guiding students through off campus rotation site ideas, ERAS, and the interview season.
