Garden Club

Community gardening club in Rec Therapy at MMI

Garden Club

With the opening of MMI’s replacement building in 2020, the department of recreational therapy was gifted a new, on-campus, barrier free, raised garden from the Munroe-Meyer Guild. This became the site of our Garden Club.

Garden Club is for adults with developmental disabilities age 18 and older. Structured as a “Farm to Fork” program, participants will grow vegetables, harvest them and take them home to eat. A trained recreation therapist runs this program with the assistance of activity technicians.

In addition to planting, managing, weeding, and harvesting various types of vegetables, beans, herbs and more, participants will also learn skills related to safely cutting vegetables to eat or use for cooking while having social interaction opportunities with peers and activity technicians.
