The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program of the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska offers one to four week externships to qualified dental and medical students. The externship offers the student considering a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in the surgical specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
The extern will be expected to participate in the operating room and clinical management of patients as well as the scheduled didactic conferences of the residency program. The extern may be involved in clinical patient care that occurs at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Creighton University, and the Veterans Administration Hospital of Omaha. The extern may be asked to present at one of the OMFS conferences during their stay in Omaha, and involvement in research is encouraged. Externships are available throughout the year, however the highest demand occurs during the summer months, so plan accordingly.
Living arrangements are the responsibility of the extern. Transportation between hospitals and facilities will be provided for the extern.
Complete the Application Form.
The application and supporting documentation should be received at least two (2) months prior to the desired month of externship. Externships are offered to qualified candidates on a first come, first served basis.
