Veterans Affairs Rheumatoid Arthritis Biospecimen Bank

This bank includes DNA, serum and plasma from a large multicenter cohort with U.S. Veterans with RA. Detailed clinical data also available.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Investigational Network

This biobank includes banked DNA and sera on patients with established RA who are currently receiving care in the established RAIN (Rheumatoid Arthritis Investigational Network) study protocols. The use of these materials will continue to foster scientific gains in our understanding of genetic and biologic determinants of RA disease expression and treatment response. The Biobank has the potential to serve as a valuable resource for local and national investigators working in this area.

Nebraska Cardiovascular Biobank and Registry

Includes tissue and blood from cardiovascular patients and from patients who's organs are unsuitable for transplant and have thus given consent to donate their organs for research. Cardiovascular patients who are treated at UNMC are approached to participate and asked to donate blood and excess tissue for the purpose of future genetic, cellular and molecular clinical database studies. In addition, our group is partnering with Nebraska Organ Recovery to collect heart tissue deemed unsuitable for transplant for use in the tissue bank. These samples are archived in an identified fashion, followed prospectively, and utilized for hypothesis driven studies of cardiovascular disease with IRB approval.

Integrated Cancer Repository for Cancer Research

iCaRe2 is a multi-institutional resource created and maintained by the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center to collect and manage standardized, multi-dimensional, longitudinal data and biospecimens on consented adult cancer patients, high-risk individuals, and normal controls. The distinct characteristic of the iCaRe2 is its geographical coverage, with a significant percentage of small and rural hospitals and cancer centers. The iCaRe2 advances comprehensive studies of risk factors of cancer development and progression and enables the design of novel strategies for prevention, screening, early detection and personalized treatment of cancer.  Centers with expertise in cancer epidemiology, genetics, biology, early detection, and patient care can collaborate by using the iCaRe2 as a platform for cohort and population studies.

Nebraska Biobank

Deidentified serum, plasma, and whole blood (genomic  DNA) collected from consented patients’ left-over clinical laboratory samples.  A limited amount of demographic information from the EHR is linked to the samples including age range, diagnosis, and medications.  Samples are available to any NU System faculty member for use in pilot studies.  The Nebraska biobank staff also provide sample management services for clinical trials and registries. UNMC Rheumatology Serous/Synovial and Tissue Bank

Collects serous/synovial fluids and tissues (excess surgery from joint surgeries) from patients with Rheumatic and/or Dermatologic diseases at UNMC for the purpose of future genetic, cellular, molecular and clinical database studies. These samples are archived in an identified fashion, followed prospectively, and utilized for hypothesis driven studies of Rheumatologic and/or Dermatologic disease with IRB approval.

Nebraska Intestine and Liver Repository

Comprised of patient samples including blood, liver, and intestine from UNMC for the purpose of future genetic, cellular and molecular clinical database studies. We are developing a cohort of samples that is a representation all the various gastrointestinal diseases. Human Biological Material is also collected from organs donated to research through Nebraska Organ Recovery. These samples are archived in an identified fashion, followed prospectively, and utilized for hypothesis driven studies of gastrointestinal diseases with IRB approval.

National Bank for Rheumatic Diseases

Stores collected tissue from the Arthritis Research Center Foundation for use in hypothesis driven research involving Rheumatic diseases. This tissue bank is a collection of Rheumatoid disease patient samples including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, gout, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia among others. This biobank was transferred from Wichita, Kan., to UNMC. These samples will be archived in an identified fashion, followed prospectively, and utilized for hypothesis driven studies of Rheumatologic diseases with IRB approval.
